Xiumin is the oldest member of EXO. "Xiumin" is his stage name, and his real name is Kim Min-seok. He was born on March 26, 1990, in Korea. He stands at approximately 172 cm tall, weighs 63 kg, and has blood type B. He is two years older than his younger sister and has two cats named 탄 and 론.

 

 

He is signed under SM Entertainment and is a member of the group EXO, the subgroup EXO-M, and the unit EXO-CBX. He is one of the two Korean members in EXO-M, which primarily sings in Chinese. The other member is Chen, who is also part of EXO-CBX. Xiumin made his debut as part of EXO-M on April 8, 2012, debuted with EXO-CBX on October 31, 2016, and more recently made his solo debut on September 26, 2022.

 

He is not known to have a specific religious affiliation and completed his military service in the Army on December 6, 2020. In EXO, his position is a sub-vocalist and sub-rapper. He has acquired various nicknames, many of which were given due to his outstanding visuals.

However, since 2015, his ratio of vocal parts has significantly increased, and he is now primarily focused on handling vocal sections rather than rap. Nevertheless, on EXO-CBX's albums, he continues to handle both vocal and rap parts.

 

 

According to other EXO members, Xiumin was a diligent and hardworking learner. They mentioned that he had no prior dance experience before joining SM, which initially led to a lack of dance skills. However, through his relentless efforts and hard work, he made significant improvements. Xiumin has a strong foundation, impressive expressiveness, and a dancing style that effectively showcases his own charm. He is particularly praised for his ability to bring out the cute aspects of choreography.

 

Xiumin is renowned as an idol with a cat-like image. He possesses large, monolid eyes, a small and slim face, and fair skin. Above all, Xiumin is famous for his baby face and is often cited as the epitome of youthful appearance. While East Asians typically tend to look younger than their age, Xiumin appears even more youthful among Koreans.

 

 

Known for his humble and grounded personality, Xiumin is considered the most organized member of EXO. He has a habit of keeping his surroundings clean and finds solace in tidying up, which helps alleviate his stress. As a result, his classmates used to choose Xiumin as their preferred roommate. He admits to not speaking much due to his fear of making mistakes and feeling burdened by the attention focused on him. However, it is said that he is not as introverted off-camera.

 

Xiumin despises individuals who disregard common courtesy, and his rare displays of tears on broadcasts may create the misconception that he is emotionally reserved. However, he has explained that it is because he prefers not to express himself openly or feels uncomfortable doing so.

 

 

Xiumin's favorite color is blue, and he has a preference for the spring season. Among animals, he particularly likes cats. He enjoys sunny weather with a few clouds, and in his free time, he likes to go shopping. Xiumin has a fondness for the streets of Akihabara in Japan, as well as Japanese anime.

 

He has mentioned that one of his favorite foods to eat is Samgyeopsal, as it is a great dish for enjoying together. When he returns from a tour or trip, the first thing he craves is Samgyeopsal. He is also a fan of coffee and enjoys Chinese cuisine, particularly "Mongolian pot." Among Japanese foods, he has a liking for ramen, okonomiyaki, and sukiyaki, and he prefers soju over beer. While there isn't any food he dislikes, he has mentioned that he has a dislike for squid.

 

 

Xiumin has a special affinity and skill for ball sports such as soccer, basketball, and tennis. Recently, the other members have shown an interest in golf, but Xiumin has been focusing on tennis and even taking lessons. He also mentioned that he enjoys watching Netflix series and dramas, and makes sure to watch all the works that EXO members appear in. Additionally, he expresses a love for Japanese anime and playing Nintendo Switch games.

When Xiumin initially debuted as a member of EXO-M in China, he indulged in his favorite dish, Mongolian pot, which resulted in weight gain. However, he later successfully underwent crash dieting, shed the excess weight, and captivated fans with his handsome appearance. He used to be afraid of cats due to past negative experiences, but he overcame that fear. Cats have now become his favorite animals, and he even has two cats at his parents' house.

 

 

During his student days, Xiumin had a fondness for sports and contemplated becoming a physical education teacher or a bodyguard as his future career. However, in 2008, at the age of 18, he entered SM Entertainment and underwent a three-and-a-half-year training period as a trainee.

 

Regarding his stage name "Xiumin," it was given to him by SM Entertainment's representative. The name combines the Chinese pronunciation of "xiu," meaning "excellent," and "Min" from his real name, Minseok. Xiumin has expressed that he prefers this stage name over his real name.

 

 

According to the agency, Xiumin debuted as a member of EXO-M because his image harmonized well with the other EXO-M members. However, fans speculate that his inclusion was due to an unexpected change in the casting process during the preparations for debut.

 

Xiumin is the only EXO member who does not have double eyelids, and despite being the oldest member, he is known for his ability to display aegyo (cute and playful behavior). He is also considered the best drinker in EXO and is said to be one of the best drinkers in SM Entertainment. In the past, Xiumin aspired to become a singer after watching TVXQ's concerts, and he has expressed a deep admiration for singer Park Hyo-shin.
