Firstly, while much of the information is correct, it is important to note that it lacks credibility and professionalism since it is based on known information and rumors, without specific sources from the editors. EXO made their debut in Korea and China simultaneously on April 8, 2012, and in Japan in 2015. They are veteran idols who have already been active for 11 years. I find it truly remarkable that they remain highly popular even after 11 years.

 

EXO's music genres encompass dance, ballad, R&B, and SMP. However, I was not familiar with SMP, so I conducted some research on it. SMP appears to be an acronym for SM Music Performance. It is a term used to describe music frequently performed by idol groups from SM Entertainment. However, it is difficult to categorize SMP as a distinct music genre itself. The latest SMP productions are characterized by a heavy and full sound. The leader of EXO is a member named Suho.

 

EXO's agency is SM Entertainment, which is one of the prominent agencies in Korea, and their fandom is called EXO-L. The letter 'L' in EXO-L stands for 'Love', signifying the love that fans have for the group. It also represents the position of EXO-L between EXO-K and EXO-M, which are the subgroups of EXO that I will explain later. This naming convention is based on the English alphabetical order, where "K" is followed by "L" and then "M". EXO-L is also affectionately referred to as "에리".

 

 

There are numerous EXO-Ls around the world, not only in Asian countries such as China, Japan, and Taiwan but also in countries like the United States, Canada, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Despite the political tensions between Korea and China, EXO has managed to maintain a high level of popularity in China, and their fandom has continued to grow due to their strong presence in Japan and North America.

 

 

On the other hand, from 2014 to 2015, three Chinese members consecutively left the group, which led to various issues. However, these challenges further strengthened and expanded the solidarity among the fandom, EXO-L. Additionally, EXO-L is known for their remarkable ability to create a vibrant atmosphere during concerts.

 

EXO is a group that played a significant role in the transition from the second and a half generation to the third generation of K-pop. They achieved remarkable records through their diverse concepts and exceptional skills.

 

 

EXO is known for maintaining a close relationship among its members. The older members are described as having calm personalities, while the middle members born in 1992 are known for their active and lively nature. One member born in 1993 is said to be meticulous, while the younger members are playful, creating a harmonious dynamic within the group.

 

In addition to their group activities, each member engages in various individual pursuits such as acting, modeling, and solo projects. They actively support and promote each other, often sending food to filming locations and offering encouragement. Since their debut, it is reported that they have never experienced any serious conflicts and approach each other's advice with an open mind.

 

The name of the group "EXO" was inspired by the English word "Exoplanet," which refers to a planet outside the solar system. It carries the meaning of "a new star from an unknown world."

 

Initially, EXO debuted with 12 members divided into two subgroups, EXO-K and EXO-M, with 6 members each. When the members from both subgroups collaborated, they were known as EXO. However, over time, Chinese members started to leave the group, and as a result, EXO-M appears to have disbanded, although there hasn't been an official announcement regarding this matter.

 

 

The "K" in EXO-K indeed stands for Korean. It is a subgroup of EXO consisting of 6 Korean members, and their notable characteristic is that they sing in Korean regardless of the country they are performing in. They explore various genres such as dance, ballad, and R&B. Similar to EXO, the leader of EXO-K is Suho. It's important to note that there is no separate fandom for subgroups or units within EXO. The official fandom of EXO, known as EXO-L, supports and engages in all fandom activities.

 

Although EXO-K and their sister group EXO-M perform the same songs, there are subtle differences between them. Each subgroup has its own vocal and dance style, resulting in variances in choreography. Moreover, the lyrics may not be exactly the same, and there could be differences in the distribution of parts among the members for certain songs. Additionally, due to the twins concept, there are instances where the choreography is symmetrical.

 

 

Let's take a brief look at EXO-M as well. EXO-M explores the same genres as EXO-K, and their leader was Chris, a Chinese member. The "M" in EXO-M represents Mandarin, the standard Chinese language. Their notable feature is that they perform in Chinese regardless of the country they are in.

 

Returning to EXO as a whole, their songs have garnered a significant reception due to their distinct fairy tale singing style, which sets them apart from other boy groups. Their lyrics often feature beautiful and metaphorical elements reminiscent of fairy tales. Furthermore, EXO has constantly ventured into various music styles and undergone musical transformations, rather than being confined to a single style. Their experimental approach has yielded successful results.

 

 

EXO is renowned for their exceptional vocal abilities, and members D.O, Baekhyun, and Chen, who are the main vocalists, are highly praised for their unique charms and outstanding vocal skills. The group places greater emphasis on vocals rather than rap, with Chanyeol, Sehun, and Xiumin often handling most of the rap sections.

 

In terms of dancing, Kai and Lay shine as the main dancers, regarded as some of the best among Korean boy groups. However, it's important to note that all the members possess excellent dancing skills, contributing to the group's overall performance quality.

 

 

In addition to EXO-K and EXO-M, there are two other units within EXO known as EXO-CBX and EXO-SC. EXO-CBX is the first unit formed within EXO and consists of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. They made their debut on October 31, 2016, and explore genres such as dance and ballad.

 

There have been recent reports of a significant conflict between EXO-CBX and SM Entertainment regarding their contract renewal. However, the latest news indicates that SM Entertainment and EXO-CBX have fortunately reached an agreement, and the contract renewal has been successfully completed.

 

 

The reason for the formation of EXO-CBX was that the three of them lived on the same floor and shared many similarities. They proposed the idea to the agency and promoted it. Although there isn't an official leader designated for the unit, Xiumin, as the senior member, often takes on a leadership role. EXO's second unit, EXO-SC, consists of Sehun and Chanyeol, who are among the group's most senior members. They made their debut on July 22.

 

EXO's most viewed music video is "Love Shot," which has reached 570 million views, making it the highest among SM artists. Additionally, they have 14 music videos with over 100 million views, including "Monster." EXO is known for releasing music videos in both Korean and Chinese versions.

 

 

 

The group has achieved remarkable records and accolades throughout their career. They were awarded Best Singer at the Asian Artist Awards in 2016-2017 and received the Grand Slam at the Melon Music Awards. In 2017, Melon recognized them as the most famous idol group in Korea. Their fifth album peaked at number 23 on the US Billboard 200 and secured the top spot on the World Albums chart for two consecutive weeks.

 

Despite being in their eleventh year since debut, EXO continues to enjoy immense popularity. They hold the distinction of being the first Korean idol group to win the grand prize for five consecutive years. Moreover, they hold a world record for selling out all their concert tickets in the shortest amount of time. Their fandom, EXO-L, remains steadfast and continues to grow stronger with each passing year.

 

 

 

One of EXO's most iconic songs in the Korean music scene is "으르렁 (Growl)," which is often closely associated with the group. It has left a lasting impression on the Korean public. Furthermore, at the closing ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, EXO, along with CL from 2NE1, were chosen as performers, signifying their representation of Korean artists at an international event, which holds great significance.

 

In China, despite the influence of politics and cultural censorship, EXO's songs continue to enjoy tremendous popularity, accumulating an impressive 900 million views. Additionally, their music has achieved significant success in Japan, reaching the top spot on the Oricon weekly chart. EXO has also gained a substantial fan base in North and South America, expanding their global reach.

 

 

EXO had a significant presence at the Burj Khalifa fountain show in Dubai, which is considered one of the top three fountain shows in the world and attracts around 100 million visitors annually. For the first time in K-pop history, EXO's songs were featured in the fountain show, and EXO members were even invited to attend as guests. In addition to the fountain show, there was an impressive LED light show held at the Burj Khalifa.

 

Prior to EXO's participation, only members of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates had been featured in the LED light show. However, EXO became the first non-royal individuals to be showcased in the show. This marked a significant milestone for the group.

 

Moreover, EXO was nominated, alongside BTS and GOT7, in the Best Social Artist category at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, highlighting their international recognition and influence within the music industry.

 

 

Unlike the general feedback received by SM Entertainment artists regarding their acting, EXO has been praised for their performances. In particular, D.O. has gained significant recognition for his exceptional acting skills and has been regarded as one of the best among idols by industry experts.

 

Currently, Kai is serving in the military as a social worker since May 11 of this year. His expected discharge date is February 10, 2025. As for Sehun, the youngest member of EXO, he has not yet commenced his mandatory military service. Consequently, it is anticipated that the full group will not reunite until 2025 at the earliest when all the members have completed their military duties.
